Why brakeless bmx
Have you ever taken your brakes off, or thought about riding brakeless? I've never given much thought to being brakeless. It's not so much being brakeless that would give me trouble but being brake lever-less would suck to get used to. I remember an old Dig with a Keith Gower interview where he said, "People that don't ride with their finger on their lever suck. Anytime I've ridden death grip full finger grip on both grips it's felt really goofy and awkward.
I once snapped my brake cable and didn't put a new one on until two months later. However, I taped my brake lever in a position so it wouldn't move and I had somewhere to rest my finger -- that was the closest I've ever come to being brakeless. Plus, the look and feel of a lever is rad to me for some reason, maybe because it makes me think of motocross or something; part of that whole "keeping the MX in B-MX" I suppose.
MVC Section I have no problem with people who decide to go brakeless However, just don't slam into me when you cannot stop in time or tell me I should remove my brakes cause my bike will look "cleaner" without them.
Made In Taiwan You Have Chosen Wisely! Guaranteed Strength never unarmed! VOGR no fijindus picklers! My MCL got jerked up when a guy with brakes slammed into me. Brakes or no brakes, if you aren't aware of your surroundings you're a danger. I raced with a minumim of brake power It just comes to this: You have to jump or pass. Feedback is for pussy's that needs confirmation of there ass kissing.
I am me my self and I. Deal with it I just wanted to chime in and say that you old bastards huffing and puffing about kids breaking the law by riding a bmx brakeless is hysterical. Smoking weed is illegal to. Maybe some of you should try it. It will calm you down. The majority of kids riding now ride brakelss. I've yet to see a plague of bmx accidents the involve your children getting run over. I know change is scary, but you'll get used to it.
If not, remember that these brakeless he'll raisers are breaking the law. Hopefully for your sake they all get locked up and you can stop worrying about a gang of brakeless bmxers trampling pre schools and running over old people crossing streets. Or maybe anyone who is so distraught with brakeless bmx that they feel getting the law involved is called for can try brakeless themselves.
The "do-or-die" feeling may not be to everyone's taste, but it certainly helped me progress in terms of both confidence and ability. The downsides are obviously not being able to stop in time should there be an emergency, however, being alert and concious of surroundings prevents this from happening though not completely elimiating it, as we can't predict the future.
There are also the lack of speed-checks, should you come into something too hot The final point about parks can be avoided if everyone had decent park ettiquete, however, this ISN'T an ideal world, so it always pays to be on your toes. Give it a shot for a fortnight at least, that may give you time to adjust and form your own opinion, after all, it's a very personal thing.
Downside's to not run brakes: Wears out shoes faster, slower to stop, harder to do some tricks, dangerous. Apart from the vee on my poerlite that would lock up and spit you sideways onto the road sliding into oncoming traffic.
Fly brake baradine pads and lever will lock a wheel with one finger…squeels like a banshee though. And now others have copied. This from some fantastic kids at Windsor. Even one brake is illegal for the road. But I figure half legal is better than not. The pad fixing hardware on the brake had to be ground down and they nearly rested on the stays. As for not affording brakes.. Odyssey Evolvers are good brakes. No flex and on a clean chrome rim they stopped me well. Quite noisy though.
As a skater, I would beg to differ. Freewheel, brakeless and fast. The hilarious thing was I went faster, rode safer by picking lines better and committing instead of using brakes as an excuse to ride badly…..
