I was able to completely finish RtWM by using this procedure. If anyone else is facing a similar dilemma, refer to this post. Doesn't exist. I don't even think there are any cheats this year. Unanswered How do you unlock different stories in rode to WrestleMania? Hordriss 96, 05 Jan 05 Jan Does WWE '12 deliver? Now follows my detailed review of the game. It is a lengthy review, but there is a lot to cover! When it shines, it truly shines, however when it fails it fails badly. The arenas look great, with nice effects to give the crowd plenty of depth.

Up close ie, when the action ventures outside of the ring the nearer members of the crowd look a bit funny, but from the ring, the crowd looks fantastic. The entrances also look great, and for the most part are authentic to how the actual WWE performers enter the ring. However, where the graphics really fail is in a number of the character models. A large number of them look great - John Cena, Undertaker, CM Punk, Kane, The Rock and Randy Orton are prime examples, looking incredibly lifelike, even down to incredible replications of Orton's and Undertaker's complex sleeve tattoos.

Some nice graphical touches have been made, however, such as the game recreating the special lighting that happens during Sin Cara's matches, and this kind of thing is a little touch that should be noticed and appreciated by diehard WWE fans.

It adds a nice little dose of authenticity to the game. Also, much has been made by THQ of the game's new 'Predator Technology', which is an upgraded graphics and physics engine.

The result of this is things like the ropes shaking from the impact of moves, and the ability for players to break up moves mid-flow. The other major change this has had is in the positioning of moves. In previous WWE games, certain moves, such as John Cena's Five Knuckle Shuffle, would result in the players teleporting to certain parts of the ring for the move to play out.

Now, this doesn't happen, rather the move takes place wherever the characters are in the ring. All this leads to the matches having a more natural flow to them, although it's not completely perfect.

For example, I've seen it where the referee gets in the way of characters performing a move, and this results in the characters sliding across the ring a little bit. However, credit where it's due, the new technology has definitely improved the game.

All the expected sound effects are there, from the impact of punches, to the crash when a wrestler is slammed into the canvas. It's all there, and is exactly as you'd expect, and the sounds do give the illusion of a big impact, which is good. Added this year, is 'arena effects' to the wrestler's entrance themes. What this means is that a reverb effect has been added to the songs to make it sound like they're being played over the PA system in a large arena.

Again, a small touch but a welcome one. The commentary is one area which fans have been begging THQ to improve, and there have certainly been some improvement. A lot of the commentary phrases from Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole will be familiar to anybody who've played the and SvR games.

However, extra lines have been added, many of which reflect Cole's recent change to a bad guy persona on real-life WWE programming. A good example is Cole's on-screen hatred of wrestler Daniel Bryan, and there are some line's he'll say in the game when Daniel Bryan is in the ring that reflect this. Cole and Lawler are also playable characters in-game, and there are some comical lines they will say when their likenesses are in the ring.

It's not a quantum leap, but it's clear an effort has been made here. First of all, the roster is impressive. Add into that spots for up to 50 created wrestlers, and you have a huge roster to play with.

This amounts to one of the most impressive rosters ever seen in a WWE game. The revamped physics engine already mentioned makes a big impact on the flow of the matches. The controls have also been revamped as well, and this is a change for the better. Previously, grapple moves were initiated using the right analogue stick, which had the tendancy to be imprecise.

Now, grapples are mapped to the A button in conjunction with moving the left stick in different directions, and a wrestler will perform more powerful moves when their opponent is in a groggy state. The old button mashing pin system has been removed, and replaced with a system where you hold down a face button and release when the cursor reaches a blue box. This system is kinder to your fingers and your controller, and the visual that goes with it gives you a much better indication of how likely you are to be able to kick out of a pin attempt.

Button mashing is not completely eradicated however, as the new 'breaking point' submission system is essentially a button mashing exercise, however with a visual to indicate whether a submission or an escape is the likely option. I will say that the new controls took a little bit of getting used to, however once I did get used to them I would definitely say they are an improvement.

The Royal Rumble elimination system has also been revamped, and is now done as a quick time event rather than button mashing, which I think is an improvement. In previous years, one of the biggest complaints was in relation to poor AI, which resulted in shallow gameplay, where on the easiest settings you could paste an opponent without them getting a move in, and the harder difficulties were simply made harder by increasing the amount of cheap reversals the AI would pull off.

This has been rectified by levelling out the reversals, but making the AI attack more aggressively but not overly so. This has resulted in more challenging, but less frustrating gameplay. The gameplay balancing system from previous games, where sliders change aspects of the game, such as reversal amounts and damage levels from different types of moves, has remained intact and enables you to change the game's difficulty to the perfect level for your ability.

If you can think of a match type which has been on WWE programming in the last few years, chances are you can recreate it in the game. There is of course standard matches like normal one on one and tag team matches.

Matches can involve up to six wrestlers, and match environments include a normal ring, steel cage, hell in a cell and elimination chamber. Universe Mode, which was first introduced in SvR is an ongoing career type mode, which sets out matches and events.

During this mode, cutscenes will trigger at random which play out rivalries and new storylines, meaning nobody's game will be the same. There is a greater variety of cutscenes this year, and it is a lot of fun seeing how things play out.

There's also a greater chance of wrestlers switching sides from good to bad and vice versa, so it keeps things fresh. You can just let it play out how the system sets it out, or you can change every match if you want to. Another improvement over last year is that you can create championship matches whenever you want.

You can also change which belts are defended on each show, so if you don't like the current WWE title belt, you can change it to something else. Universe also employs a matchflow system, where if you don't want to change the matches, you can seemlessly go from one match to another without going back to the menus, and this is a welcome change. However, Universe is not without its faults. For example, in a tag team match if you want to play as all members of a team, you have to go to the edit match screen first, which is stupid and unintuitive.

If you simply press the start match button, you will only have the option of playing as one of the participants. Also, you can't edit an entire card and then play through it with matchflow, You have to edit it a match at a time, and then if you want to edit the next match, you need to exit to the menus. Again, stupid and unintuitive. Despite the flaws however, Universe mode does have the potential to last a long time, and keeps things varied enough to keep it interesting.

Another mode which has been revamped is the Road to Wrestlemania mode. In previous years, you had a choice of a number of different stories, each focusing on a different wrestler on their journey from the beginning of the year to the Wrestlemania event a timeline of about 3 months.

Now, there is one mode, split into 3 different stories covering about 18 months of storyline. The first is the villain story, where you play as Sheamus, the second is the outsider story where you play as Triple H, and the final is the hero story where you play as a created wrestler, but his name Jacob Cass and his moveset are predetermined - you just edit his appearance through the create a superstar mode. This mode is a mixed bag. The storyline is great, and I'm sure will be appreciated by most wrestling fans, partcularly those who have been fans for 10 years or more.

However, the actual gameplay of Road to Wrestlemania is where it falls down. There is an over-abundance of handicap matches and backstage brawls, to the point where it truly detracts from the experience.

And the vast majority of matches are not played out like normal matches, rather you have to do certain objectives and when you've done what you need to do, you press Y when prompted and a cutscene plays out. This objective based gameplay is novel for a while, but becomes a drag well before the mode ends.

And for those that want to unlock everything, you will be forced to play through the whole thing as most of the more interesting unlockables like most of the unlockable wrestlers are actually unlocked in this mode. The only plus-side to this is that the storyline is done in such a linear fashion that is it impossible to miss any of the unlockables from this mode, as long as you play the whole thing.

The most well known is create a superstar. Here, as the name implies, you create a wrestler. This is a very flexible mode, where you can make all kinds of weird and wonderful creations.

A lot of time can be lost here, and it's good fun to play around with. The only downer is that the mode has been mostly untouched for the last couple of instalments, so there's no real improvement over last year. That said, it's still hard to fault how flexible it is. Related to this is create an entrance and create a moveset — here you can make entrances or movesets for your created wrestlers, or you can edit those of the wrestlers already in the game.

Story Designer is where you can create wrestling stories, featuring scenes and matches, so you can try to recreate the drama of the TV shows with original storylines and rivalries. Again, a good amount of flexibility here, and this can be another mode where you can lose countless hours playing around.

Create a finisher is self explanatory, as is the new create an arena, where you can change the look of the arena and ring, so if for example you like the old rings from the late 's with the red, white and blue ropes, here is where you can recreate that classic look. Not everybody will spend their time on these modes, but there is so much you can do to customise your experience that it is hard to fault this.

However, the user interfaces of the creation modes aren't the most user-friendly and can take some getting used to. My only other criticism is that no real improvements have been made to the Create a Superstar mode, which is likely to be the mode most commonly used out of all of the creation tools.

There are two key elements to online in WWE '12, which is the online matches and community creations. Online matches are unfortunately a generally miserable experience. Matchmaking is poorly implemented, and often struggles to find you a suitable session. I've had many experiences of the server failing just as matches are about to start as well, which is a severe irritation.

When you do successfully join a match, the play is more often than not hampered by severe lag, which makes it bordering on impossible to enjoy the play, Community Creations is a wonderful idea, and it is now in its third year.

This is where people go to upload their creations, and to download other people's. There is plenty to find here, and you will find some creations by some really talented people Honestly, the amount of times I've been told that the WWE '12 servers are unavailable at the moment and I should try again later is beyond a joke.

What I will say is that THQ are aware of this issue, and are working on it and to be fair, things have improved a bit since release , but I would still describe the online element of the game as broken at the moment. I will keep and eye on this, and if the server and lag issues are resolved, I will edit this review and my score of this part of the game. The roster is excellent, the in-ring action is much improved, Universe is a step-up from last year's effort and the creation tools remain excellent.

However, the overall score is dragged down by the iffy execution of Road to Wrestlemania and the currently appalling online aspect of the game. However, despite its flaws it is still a great game, and any wrestling fan should feel they've got their money's worth with it. There are 2 comments. M4KR , 18 Oct 18 Oct WWE 12 has shined on this and last year's top wrestling game. This game has got most, if not all, any fan needs and wants. Stepping away from the Smackdown Vs Raw series, THQ comes back with a well planned and developed game that you are sure to enjoy.
