The Royal Parks charity has begun trials to reduce cut-through motor traffic in Richmond and Bushy Parks, opening up new car-free spaces for visitors to enjoy the natural environment. The trials will help protect and enhance these precious parks while balancing the needs of local communities.

The trials will begin on 15th August, last six months and conclude in February The parks are home to ancient trees and a wide range of rare species including fungi, birds, beetles, bats, grasses and wildflowers. Read our safety advice for park visitors including photographers and dog walkers.

Find out more ». The Royal Parks is urging visitors to Bushy and Richmond Parks to be extra vigilant and keep a minimum distance of 50metres away during the annual deer rut. Richmond Park is open to vehicles from am in the summer and am in the winter.

Vehicle gates close at dusk all year round. Pedestrian gates are open 24 hours except during the six week deer culls from November to early December and February to early March.

As part of our Movement Strategy we are trialling a scheme that reduces vehicle cut-through traffic while providing access to car parks.
